    Step 1 (Heat 2 teaspoons of oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add 0.25 teaspoon of black mustard seed. When they start to sputter, add 5 fresh curry leaves and 1 large diced tomato. Season with 1 teaspoon of freshly ground cumin seed, 0.5 teaspoon of ground black pepper, 0.5 teaspoon of red pepper flakes, and 2 pinches of ground dried turmeric. Add 3 crushed cloves of garlic. Pour in 3 cups of water and bring to a boil. Stir in 2 teaspoons of tamarind paste and add salt to taste. Simmer for 2 minutes.)

    Step 2 (Ladle the soup into bowls and garnish with 1 tablespoon of chopped fresh cilantro. You can drink it like soup or eat it with rice.)
