Instructions

  • 1

Put milk, egg, butter, sugar, salt, flour, and yeast in a bread machine. Use the Dough cycle. Move the dough to a greased bowl. Cover it and let it rise for 1 to 1.5 hours.

  • 2

Grease two baking sheets or use parchment paper.

  • 3

Cut the dough into two halves. Roll each piece into a 12 by 16 inch rectangle. Spread one tablespoon of soft butter on each piece. Mix the cinnamon, brown sugar, and raisins in a bowl.

  • 4

Put the cinnamon mix on the buttered dough. Roll the dough up from the long side. Pinch the edges shut. Shape them into rings and pinch the ends. Put them on the baking sheets. Cut the rings 2/3 of the way through every inch with scissors. Open the cuts slightly.

  • 5

You can wrap the dough in plastic and put it in the fridge overnight. Let it warm up for 30 minutes before you bake it.

  • 6

If you do not use the fridge, cover the rings with a towel. Let them rise for 40 minutes.

  • 7

Set two oven racks. Heat the oven to 350 degrees F.

  • 8

Bake for 10 minutes. Turn the sheets around. Bake for 10 more minutes until the bread is light brown.

  • 9

Mix the powdered sugar, almond extract, and milk. Pour the icing over the warm bread.
