0.25 cup pearl sugar

Instructions

  • 1

Mix warm milk, 0.5 cup sugar, warm water, and 2 tablespoons melted butter in a large bowl. Wait for the sugar to dissolve. Add yeast and set aside for 5 minutes.

  • 2

Once yeast is foamy, add flour and mix until a stiff dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, about 8 minutes. Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.

  • 3

Mix 0.5 cup sugar, cinnamon, and cardamom in a small bowl.

  • 4

Deflate the dough and roll it into a 9x13-inch rectangle. Brush with 0.5 cup melted butter. Sprinkle with the sugar mixture, raisins, and walnuts. Roll into a log and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.

  • 5

Heat the oven to 175 degrees C.

  • 6

Cut V-shapes into the top of the roll, not quite meeting in the middle.

  • 7

Beat an egg with 1 tablespoon water and brush over the bread. Sprinkle with almonds and pearl sugar.

  • 8

Bake for 30-35 minutes, until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped. Cool on a wire rack.
